Canoe Polo Cancer Challenge 2006
Weíve chosen three worthwhile cancer charities to support and all proceeds of the event will be divided equally amongst the three.
Cancer comes as a massive shock and two of our chosen charities, Cancer BACUP and Macmillan Cancer Care, are there to help sufferers, friends and relatives to come to terms with their illness and how to make life as pleasant as possible whilst going through treatment. We also wanted to support a charity that helps young cancer sufferers, and since canoeing is out of the question whilst having chemotherapy, going sailing with the Ellen McArthur Trust seemed a good option. The famous sailorís charity brightens up the lives of young people with cancer by letting them experience the thrills of the sea.
As Ruth found out, cancer sufferers shouldnít despair and suffer alone. There is a lot of help available and although there are many things that are restricted whilst having treatment - mainly you canít go canoeing due to the risk of infection - there is a mountain of activities and projects (they donít have to be quite as big as organising a 24-hour canoe polo event) that cancer patients can do to make life worthwhile. We hope our contribution to our chosen charities will help others with cancer to do the same.
